1968 MERCURY Cougar XR-7 GT-E. The 7.0-liter V8—alternately known as a 427 side-oiler—was rated at 390 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque when new and is fed by a Holley four-barrel carburetor. The lower block area is cross-bolted to the main-bearing caps, and the engine has a hydraulic camshaft, high-strength pistons and connecting rods, and heavy-duty valve springs.
