1968 Bizzarrini 5300 GT America is one of approximately 10 examples of the GT America variant built between 1966 and 1968 with fiberglass bodywork and an independent rear suspension setup. Chassis 0282 was delivered new in the US and was purchased from a New Jersey owner in the late 1970s by an Ohio owner who retained it for several decades and commissioned a refurbishment in 2010 prior to displaying the car at the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. It was purchased by its current owner in 2018 and subsequently underwent service that included refreshes of the fuel and brake systems. Finished in blue over gray leather, the car is powered by a 5.3-liter Chevrolet V8 that breathes through quadruple Weber carburetors and is mated to a four-speed manual transmission. Bizzarrini began production of the 5300 GT in 1964 as an evolution of the Iso Grifo A3/C competition variant that had been designed by Giotto Bizzarrini during a short-lived collaborative effort with Renzo Rivolta. Much of the A3/C’s Giorgetto Giugiaro-penned styling was carried over in the 5300 GT’s bodywork, which was shaped in aluminum for the Strada variant and in fiberglass for the Corsa version.
